Termite FAQ's

Here are some common questions we've encounter in our inspections!

Should I local treat or fumigate for Drywood Termites?

If you've recently fumigated your home you can probably get away with doing some local/spot treatments. However, if you haven't, we recommend home owners get a fumigation done every 10-15 years (depending on the area). Areas that are closer to the beach might vary and need to be fumigated more often, closer to 5-10 years. The reason being that there could be multiple colonies behind the walls during the years of swarming and infesting!

What is the difference between flying ants and termites?

Great question! the way you can tell them apart is by their wings and body. Ants have 3 bodies, "L" shape antennas, and their wings are always longer on the front and shorter on their hind wings. As for termites, they usually have one uniform body, straight antennas, and long wings.

What chemical do you use for treatment?

The chemical that we use for treatment is called Bora-Care. Bora-Care is a wood preservative that is low on toxicity. This is not harmful chemical to humans or pets when dry. This treatment will insure the protection of all wood structures on the treated area. When the area is treated Bora-Care will make sure to destroy subterranean termites, drywood termites, and fungi.

How can I maintain my home?

You can schedule an inspection every 2-5 years to catch termites early on and treat before they can cause any damage.
